iSpellWell
divides spelling lessons into groups referred to as courses. A typical
course might be "First Grade". Lessons are identified
by name and are stored in alphabetical order (see screen shot of
the first grade lessons to the right)
iSpellWell
uses Wizards to help you customize
user lists, courses and lessons. Wizards are simply windows where
custom information is entered. When a new
course is created, the Wizard requires that you enter a course
name, date, grade level and description. When a new
lesson is created, you enter a name, spelling words, sentences
and definitions. In addition, a Microsoft
Agent character is selected, a graphical background is specified
and font colors are defined.
When a student starts the software he is required to logon.
His use name is used to track performance. In addition, the Microsoft
Agent refers to the students by their first name. As a result
of this structure, users are required to enter their names when
the software is first started. Additional users can be added later
using the New Student Wizard.
After logging on, the student clicks the testing
button to display the lesson tree like the one shown above.
He clicks on a lesson and then clicks either the Practice Button
or Test Button. For studying his lessons, the student should click
the Practice Button. In Practice Mode, the student receives feedback
about his performance and is required to re-enter words until he
types the correct answer. In Practice Mode, the child receives words
of praise whether his answer is correct or incorrect. These phrases
may be customized. A graphic background is displayed during a practice
or test session. These may also be customized.
